Stern, Rachel
Thinking of SpringRachel Stern expands on her work to combines oil paint with cold wax medium: “Working this way allows me to develop new techniques to create representational and non-representational subjects. Working with a combination of Oil Paint and Cold Wax Medium, various layers are applied to a surface.” As one layer dries, I apply another layer of contrasting color to the entire panel, building layers. This process creates various shapes. Deciding what image to depict, I work to enhance it, using line, more scraping, additional colors, textures, and collage. Finally, the entire image is pulled together to impart the impact of the subject that resides in my memory and imagination.”
